Higher than average rainfall forecast for May-June in Cambodia

In Cambodia, the wet season comes courtesy of the southwest monsoon which blows from the month of May until October, bringing with it some 75 percent of the country’s annual rainfall.

The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology has issued a weather forecast for May-June 2024.

After monitoring, analyzing and forecasting the weather situation of the Ministry as well as from international institutions, especially the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the Ministry of Water Resources would like to inform the public about the weather situation at the beginning of the rainy season from May 1 to June 30, 2024 as follows:

1. Global Phenomena
According to the evolution of temperature in the eastern Pacific Ocean and the equator, from May to June, El Niño will be 10%. The ENSO-neutral phenomenon will increase to 83% in May.

2: Weather forecast in Cambodia
Such a situation will cause low temperature in the lowlands, highlands and coastal areas of Cambodia with a minimum temperature of 26 degrees Celsius and a maximum temperature of 36 degrees Celsius. Moderate to moderate rainfall covers 40% of the land area and rainfall is higher than the average for many years, with thunderstorms and strong winds.

According to the above-mentioned weather conditions, the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology would like to inform the relevant ministries, institutions, local authorities and the public to cooperate in maintaining water use at a high level, especially in remote rural areas far from the source. Water.

The Ministry of Water Resources also warned to pay close attention to thunderstorms and strong winds.
