GENESEE COUNTY, MI — Whether you’re seeking a night out with your partner or a fun-filled family activity, we’ve got you covered.

Take a look through the list below at a variety of activities throughout Flint and Genesee County from Saturday, Jan. 28 to Sunday, Jan. 29.

Flint Kids Cook at Flint Farmers’ Market

Pop in and cook with us in the ELGA Credit Union Demonstration Kitchen during your visit to the Flint Farmers’ Market, 300 E. 1st St., on Saturday, Jan. 28.

Chef Tina will teach children how to make carrot cake muffins with cream cheese frosting. The event is free and open to kids aged 8 to 18 years old. Flint Kids Cook graduates and new kids are welcome.

No registration is required, families are encouraged to just stop in. All food and supplies will be provided.

We will have one group begin baking at 11 a.m. and a second group begins baking at noon. Both groups will make the same recipe. Please plan to arrive for either the 11 a.m. or noon baking group if planning to participate.

Poets and Writers: An open mic night at Totem Books

An open mic evening is set from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28 at Totem Books, located at 620 W. Court Street in Flint.

All are invited to come and read your own literature for others or just relax and listen. Hand-crafted cafe espresso drinks will be available all evening.

16th Annual Community Gala at the Flint Institute of Arts

The 16th Annual Community Gala takes place Saturday, Jan. 28 in celebration of the exhibition opening for Ways of Seeing: The Paul R. Jones Collection of American Art at the University of Alabama and is a celebration of Black History Month.

The evening at the Flint Institute of Arts, 1120 E. Kearsley St., includes a lecture by the curator of The Paul R. Jones Collection of American Art, Emily Bibb, followed by the opening in the Hodge and Henry Galleries, live entertainment, heavy hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar.

All galleries will be open for your enjoyment.

Theater seating is first come, first served. A lecture presentation begins promptly at 6 p.m., and a reception will continue from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Cocktail attire is required.

This is a ticketed event. In advance, costs are $60 per guest for members and $80 for non-members. At the door, costs are $75 per guest and $95 for non-members.

Proceeds from the event benefit exhibitions and expand the African American art collection at the FIA.

15th anniversary at Fenton Winery and Brewery

As the Fenton Winery and Brewery, located at 1370 N. Long Lake Road in Fenton Township, celebrates its 15th Anniversary Week, it will have numerous events all weekend long.

On Saturday, Jan. 28, the premiere 15th anniversary party will be in full effect from noon to 11 p.m.

Those interested in celebrating are encouraged to join for a special night full of laughs, memories of shared experiences and gratitude from owners and staff for all of the support along the 15-year journey.

There will be beer, wine, and spirit releases, complimentary photos provided by Tom Tom Photo Booth and complimentary treats passed out throughout the day.

Guided tours will be available from noon to 4 p.m., and those interested are encouraged to call 810-373-4194 to book in advance.

Entertainment will be provided by Marlow the Entertainer from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

On Sunday, Jan. 29, the winery and brewery will host a Sunday brunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Daddy and Me Tea and Axe Throwing in Davison

Enchanted Stories and Dougie’s Café have teamed up to bring you their first-ever Daddy-Daughter event at 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29.

Dads and daughters will share some delicious food and drinks generously. Ticket price includes a magical craft that daughters, aka princesses, will take home and complete and a special story time.

Dads get to throw axes during craft and story time, and the event will end with a small parade with the princesses.

There are 18 spots designated for princesses (daughters), each encouraged to dress up, donning their favorite ball gowns and sparkly tiaras.

Cost for this event is $50. The cost is also $15 for every additional child. The event will last about 90 minutes.

Tickets are available for purchase at the coffee shop, located at 334 N. Main St. in Davison.
