"My dad was the lead singer of the R&B group, "The Main Ingredient," and traveled the world," said Gooding. "My brother Cuba, Jr. is an Oscar-winner."

Gooding's career took off when he landed a series regular role for three years on a Nickelodeon TV show, “Wild and Crazy Kids," followed by a five-year run on the ABC network series, “Hanging with Mr. Cooper,”and then a three-year run on the WB network series, “Smart Guy.” After years on television, it was a natural progression for Gooding to act in the movies.

"The turning point in my career was when I starred in a major motion picture for Paramount Pictures, “Baby Boy,” opposite Ving Rhames, Tyrese Gibson, Snoop Dogg, and Taraji P. Henson," said Gooding. He received critical praise for his role as "Sweatpea." The movie and TV roles continued for Gooding and he became a household name.
