She was raised by her grandmother and graduated from high school in 1989, later attending Wayne State University and majoring in psychology and communication.
Moore started modelling at 14 years old, later appearing on the cover of Ebony in 1992. She later competed in and won the Miss Michigan pageant in 1993 and subsequently won the Miss USA contest later that year, becoming just the second African-American to do so. Moore later represented the United States at the 1993 Miss Universe contest, ultimately placing sixth overall.
After her success through winning the Miss USA pageant and appearing in Miss Universe, Moore shifted her attention to acting, appearing in movies like Waiting to Exhale in 1995, Deliver Us From Eva in 2003 and I Know Who Killed Me in 2007 as well as in TV series like The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Living Single, The Jamie Foxx Show, The Parent ‘Hood, and Girlfriends.
