Mom claims 7-year-old daughter's head shaved without permission
The mother of a 7-year-old who lives at a residential home for children with emotional and behavorial issues believes the facility assaulted her child when they shaved the little girl's hair.Denise Robinson said her daughter had long flowing hair before the residential program where she lives shaved her hair at the urging of staff. The Department of Children and Families placed the little girl at the Little Heroes Group Home in Dracut, a residential program for children ages 5 to 11. Robinson said on Monday, staff took the little girl to a barber shop or salon and had her head completely shaved without her permission.The program insisted it was part of their hygiene program and that they could do it anytime that they wanted to."There was no hygenical reson to shave my childs head. No lice, no bed bugs, no rasta locks," Robinson said. "Decisions regarding grooming are based on a variety of factors, including hygiene," the group home said in a statement, adding that they could not provide any information about any individual served by the program under federal and state law. "A review of the circumstances is underway to determine what occurred and, if necessary, appropriate action will be taken."Robinson now wants her daughter moved out of the facility.
